Situational Tasks

To meet the world language standards for survival skill proficiency, students must accomplish the following situational tasks at a predetermined level of proficiency (see World Language Standards).

  1. Make / receive a reservation / appointment / date
  2. Interpret and respond to a written message
  3. Explain and understand household tasks
  4. Buy stamps, send and receive packages
  5. Respond to and report an emergency
  6. Ask questions about homes and use of its facilities
  7. Purchase clothing
  8. Make travel arrangements
  9. Make arrangements for an accommodation
  10. Ask for / give directions to a specific destination
  11. Describe personal appearance
  12. Identify cultural celebrations
  13. Plan a leisure-time activity
  14. React to a telephone message
  15. Discuss injury or illness
  16. Describe and ask questions about family
  17. Deal with customs and immigration
  18. Meeting someone
  19. Purchase food from the market
  20. Order a meal in a restaurant
  21. Ask to use telephone and bathroom
  22. Deal with classroom environment
