Course
Description:
Students
will study the development of advertising strategies including
a detailed study of the techniques of propaganda. Most participants
will work with local firms and develop advertising campaigns for
them. Students will partner with the managers of the local participating
businesses and these professionals will aid in the final grading.
Students will routinely use state-of-the-art graphics and presentation
software. Assignments will include the development of an advertising
campaign using radio, television, newspaper and Internet elements.

CURRENT ASSIGNMENTS RESOURCES
Goals:Review
the history of advertising; study persuasive techniques of advertising
and propaganda; examine and interpret print, television, internet
and radio advertising; develop effective advertising campaigns using
audio, video and graphic design.
Grading/Assessment:
Student grades and assessments will be based on a variety of class
work such as small and large projects, quizzes, project evaluation
and critique participation. Projects will be graded using a variety
of criteria including technical, creative, student work habits. Any
required homework or preliminary work will be factored into determining
the final grade. Any written papers required for this course must
use proper grammar, be checked for spelling mistakes and be double-spaced
as outlined in the South Burlington High School Writing Guidelines
(http://sbhs.sbschools.net/english/guidelines/index.htm).
Controversial Topics: A component of
the course involves preparation of images for online publication.
Students will be using the Internet to research electronic imaging.
In the course of this activity, it is possible that a student could
inadvertently come across an Internet site that contains inappropriate
or objectionable material. Students who intentionally access such
sites are violating the South Burlington School District Network Appropriate
