Course Description:  African American History

Course # 285   1/2 credit       Grade 11, 12 Elective

This semester long course traces the history of blacks in America  including their African roots, slavery and its abolition and the long and arduous struggle for social, political and economic equality.  Students will investigate the major African-American leaders and evaluate the contributions of influential figures in music, the arts and literature.  The course concludes with an analysis of contemporary attitudes and problems in regards to race in America.
