Mark's Obituary
Marine Corporal Mark Asher Evnin, 21, of South Burlington, died in Iraq on April 3, 2003, of wounds received in action. He was a scout sniper with the 3/4 of the 1st Marine Division at 29 Palms, California. Cpl. Evnin is survived by his mother, Mindy (Wall) Evnin of South Burlington; his father, Michael Evnin of Rockville, Md.; his grandparents, Rabbi Max B. and Miriam Wall of Burlington, and Fay Evnin of New York City; his aunts and uncles, Naomi and Greg Novak of Chappaqua, N.Y. and their children, Rebecca, Jeffrey, and Jacqueline, Shira and Richard Antonoff of Woodcliff Lake, N.J. and their children, Rachel and Jack, Tanya Dayanoff of Ithaca, N.Y. and her son, Ben Kahn. Mark is also survived by his oldest close friends, Travis Kehoe and John Brigham and their families; his girlfriend, Megan Boggia of Leonia, N.J.; and his mentor and close friend, Tim Comolli. He was predeceased by his cousin, Sarah Antonoff. Mark attended Chamberlain School and South Burlington Junior and Senior High School. He graduated with the Class of 2000. He played football and lacrosse and before enlisting had joined the cross country ski team. Mark's second home was the Imaging Lab at the high school. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to South Burlington High School, 550 Dorset St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403 (A fund is being established in Mark's memory to be used for the Imaging Lab.) or to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 3008, Princeton, N.J. 08543-3008. There will be a funeral service at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue and interment with full military honors in Hebrew Holy Society Cemetery. The time and date will be announced in a later Free Press. Cards and memories of Mark may be mailed to his mother, Mindy Evnin, 81 Hayes Ave., South Burlington, Vt. 05403. The family will sit shiva (be at home to receive friends) at Mindy's home on Wednesday and Thursday, April 9 and 10, from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., on Friday, April 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. only and on Sunday and Monday, April 13 and 14, from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Arrangements are being made by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, together with the US Marine Corps. A funeral service for Mark was held at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue in Burlington and interment with full military honors in Hebrew Holy Society Cemetery
