1. General Questions

After attending a professional concert, answer the following questions in complete sentences and with as much detail as possible. The answers must be typed.

1. Using the musical terms listed below, describe the performance in at least two paragraphs. After reading your description, I should understand clearly what type of music was played and the quality of performance. Also, be specific -name the pieces and instruments you are mentioning.

You may want to look up the definition of these words.

1. Describe the ensemble of the performers. Did they work well as a unit? Did they sound balanced? Were their attacks and releases together? Did they blend?
2. Write a short biographical paragraph about the main composer of the concert (or pick the composer of one of the pieces performed). Sometimes information is provided in the program notes. If not, you may need to do some research on your own. Remember that this needs to be in your own words!
3. Describe the piece on the program you most enjoyed and why it was your favorite.
4. Describe the piece on the program you least enjoyed and why.
5. What new insight about music did you gain by attending this performance?

1. Critique

Using all of the information above, type a one page "Critique" of this performance as though you were writing for the "Burlington Free Press." Your objective is to try to convince the reader to attend the next performance or dissuade them from attending the concert. You need to back up you opinions with facts. You may want to read some actual critiques from the newspaper to use as a model.
