This is a ThinkQuest site produced by a group of students. It is well-organized with useful hyperlinks.

Illustrated History of the Roman Empire
Although some of the text is not well-written and contains some spelling errors, this site does contain much useful information in a format that is easily accessible. The Children's Section should not be disregarded, as there is information there on the most important gods illustrated with statues, the Roman house, clothing, and gladiatorial contests. Ignore the advertising and flashing banner ads.

Rome: Republic to Empire
This site was designed to provide historical background for a course, "Ancient Rome in Film, Fiction, and Fact." It is divided into two sections: "Historical Topics" including topics such as Spartacus' rebellion and "Civilization and Culture Topics" with the Roman army, clothing, etc.
