GRADE 9

  • Provide an ongoing orientation to both the social and academic aspects of adjusting to the high school.
  • Create an awareness of the services available in the counseling office.
    Help students become aware of their learning styles.
  • Establish short and long term goals with students.
  • Enroll students for tenth grade courses.
  • Help students and families who wish to develop 4 year academic plans.

GRADE 10

  • Encourage students to begin exploring values, aptitudes and interests.
  • Make students aware of information sources relating to career exploration.
  • Make students aware of course offerings at area technical centers.
  • Help students enroll for eleventh grade courses based on goals established within the four year academic plan.
  • Offer groups to redefine goals and social adjustment.

GRADE 11

  • Provide an orientation in preparation for the PSAT/SAT and the College Fair.
  • Administer and interpreting the PSAT/NMSQT.
  • Hold Junior Guidance Programs to discuss college admissions and other future planning topics.
  • Disseminate future planning information and SAT/ACT planning to juniors.
  • Meet with juniors and parents as requested to review senior year programs and to begin post secondary planning.
  • Offer interest testing and job shadowing to interested students.
  • Offer Junior Seminar course to interested students for career and college planning.

GRADE 12

  • Give large group presentation on information relating to college admission, standardized testing, employment, services, recommendations and transcript preparation, and military opportunities.
  • Meet individually with each senior to examine transcripts, determine that requirements for graduation are met, and work to clarify post-secondary plans.
  • Host a financial aid seminar given by the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC).
  • Keep families informed of any students who are in danger of not graduating.
  • Help each senior to insure an appropriate post-secondary transition.
  • Offer Senior Seminar to interested students for transitioning to career/college.
