SOUTH BURLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL

  ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION CONTRACT

  1.            Participation rules and regulations in the SBHS Co-Curricular Activities Digest have been reviewed by your son/daughter so that he/she is familiar with the policies and expectations at the South Burlington Athletic Department.  He/she has been told that it is his/her responsibility to know the rules and to make parents aware of same.

  2.         It is emphasized that the possession or use/abuse of tobacco, alcohol and/or non-prescription drugs is not permitted at any time during the sport season.  An infraction of this rule by an athlete will result in a hearing before a school administrator who will render a decision on the infraction.  Due process will be followed in keeping with district policy regarding individuals’ rights.

              A condensed* version of the South Burlington Athletic Department Training Rules follow:

                        (Offenses are cumulative grades 9-12)

  VIOLATION                                                        CONSEQUENCES

  First Offense:

a)  Tobacco use/possession                    2 week suspension from competition

b)  Alcohol/Drug use/possession             2 week suspension from competition

  Second Offense:

a)  Tobacco use/possession                    4 week suspension from competition

b)  Alcohol/Drug use/possession             4 week suspension from competition &  Rehabilitative counseling sessions

Third Offense:

a)  Tobacco use/possession                    Suspended for one calendar year

b)  Alcohol/Drug use/possession                    Suspended for one calendar year

  *  High School students are expected to be familiar with all consequences presented in the Student-Athlete Co-Curricular Activity Digest.

3)         The student participants are not allowed to practice until the Participation Contract has been completely filled out, signed, and returned to their coach or the Student Activities Director.

  4)            Student’s general conduct in and out of school shall be such as to bring no discredit to the student, team, or school.  The participant is expected to behave in a reasonable and appropriate manner.  Failure to abide by this behavior expectation, may result in loss of playing privileges, up to and including dismissal from the team.  It is hoped that parents will encourage their son/daughter to maintain good attendance patterns regarding practice and scheduled competitions.  With a solid commitment from all involved, the co-curricular program should be a rewarding educational experience.
