| The South Burlington High School Debate Team finished another strong season, this time winning the 2008 Vermont State Championship Tournament. The team doubled in size from last year and now has eight members: Hayley Gottlieb, Will Bugbee, Michael Gaffney, Amsal Karic, Lane Kisonak, Austin Young, Alyssa Crews and Becca Lee. Lane, Austin, Becca and Alyssa all made it into the semi-final round of the State Championships. |

| Becca and Alyssa went on to win the State Championship Tournament with Alyssa being the first place speaker and Becca being the third place speaker. Also at the State Tournament, Coach David Kelley was awarded "Coach of the Year." |

| The team attended a half dozen other tournaments throughout the season with Austin, Lane, Amsal, Mike, Will, Becca and Alyssa all winning speaker awards at various tournaments. Will and Hayley are freshmen and received honorable mention at the MMU tournament. They show much promise as future debate champions! Austin, Lane, Amsal and Mike are juniors. Mike has made profound contributions to our team's research, and we are all grateful for his consistent hard work. |

| Alyssa and Becca will graduate this year, and we will miss them greatly, however, with all of the returning talent we look forward to another great year in 2009! |
