South Burlington High School Community,

Cpl. Mark Evnin, USMC, a member of South Burlington Class of 2000, was killed in action while serving his country in Iraq.

As a school and community we are pulling together to help Mark's family and each other get through this difficult time. Mark was a K-12 South Burlington School District student who attended Chamberlin Elementary and Tuttle Middle School. School district flags will remain at half mast for a period of time to be determined by the Superintendent.

At SBHS Mark was a hard working student who was involved in athletics, and excelled in electronic arts and imaging.  He graduated from SBHS in 3 1/2 years to fulfill his dream of serving his country as a United States Marine.

At a faculty meeting on April 4 he was remembered as a kind, hard working, well liked student.  SBHS technology teacher Tim Comolli shared stories of Mark's kindness, remembering small and large favors Mark had done for him and others in our school.  Special Education staff recalled how compassionate Mark was telling of how he would  make time for classmates with disabilities.  SB Football coach Joe MacDonald remembered Mark as a student who was quick to encourage others and never gave up.

Our thoughts are now with his fellow Marines, his family, and the SBHS Class of 2000.

As events in the world create emotional responses from all of us -- parents, students, alumni and staff -- please know that our entire school staff, particularly our guidance department, are available to assist our alumni, as well as the students and families of South Burlington.

A memorial service with full military honors is being planned, please check the SBHS web site (http://sbhs.sbschools.net) as details of this service and of any related memorial events will be posted as they are released.
